Getting started

Add your first plant

Tap the Add button, take a photo or choose one from your library (or skip the photo for now), give the plant a name, and save. Botanical name, seller, acquisition date, and notes are all optional — you can add them any time.

Add photos, notes & milestones

Open a plant and tap Add to record a new photo, a note, a milestone (like a new leaf or a repot), or a care observation. Each entry is dated and lands on that plant's timeline.

Photo Overlay

When taking a new photo, turn on Photo Overlay to ghost a previous photo over your camera and line up the exact same shot. Adjust the opacity and use the grid to match the framing. Your original photos are never changed.

Journey Video

Pick a plant, choose a date range, and Plant Keeper Journal turns its progress photos into a short chronological video you can preview and share.

Managing your subscription

Plant Keeper Journal is a subscription app, with three plans: weekly ($0.99/week), monthly ($2.99/month, with a 3-day free trial), and yearly ($24.99/year, with a 2-week free trial). Subscriptions are billed by Apple through your Apple ID.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so you cancel through your device — we're not able to cancel for you:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Plant Keeper Journal, then Cancel Subscription.

If you're in a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged.

I subscribed but the features didn't unlock.

Open the app's subscription screen and tap Restore Subscription. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase. If it still doesn't unlock, email us and we'll help.

How do I redeem a code?

On the subscription screen, tap Redeem Code and enter the code you received. Offer codes are redeemed through Apple.

What happens if my subscription ends?

Nothing is deleted or hidden. You can still view all your plants, photos, and entries; edit existing text such as notes and tags; delete content; and export your data at any time. Adding new plants, photos, or entries requires an active subscription, and resubscribing restores full access.

How do refunds work?

Because Apple processes all payments, refund requests are handled by Apple. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you believe you were charged in error, email us and we'll do our best to help you sort it out with Apple.

Your data, backups & privacy

Your plant records are stored on your iPhone — we don't keep a copy and can't see them. That means privacy by default, but it also means your data's safety depends on your device.

How do I back up my collection?

Use the app's Export feature to save a copy of your collection and photos, and keep your usual iPhone or iCloud device backups current. If your phone is lost or reset without a backup or export, we're unable to recover your records — we never had them.

What's the difference between the Compost Bin and deleting?

Moving a plant to the Compost Bin keeps its full history — every photo and note stays preserved and viewable — it simply isn't in your active plants any longer. Permanent delete removes the plant and its history from your device for good.

How do I delete my data?

You can delete individual plants or entries in the app, or remove everything by uninstalling the app. Full steps are on our Data & Account Deletion page. To remove your email from our mailing list, use the unsubscribe link in any email or email us.

Is my data private?

Yes. Nothing is public unless you export or share it yourself, and the app shows no ads and doesn't sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Which devices are supported?

Plant Keeper Journal is a native iPhone app. If you run into a problem, telling us your iPhone model and iOS version helps us resolve it faster.
