Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

The Plant Keeper Journal app (the "App") and the website at plantkeeperjournal.com (the "Site") are operated by Two Nodes Three Leaves LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"). In this policy, "you" means a user of the App or Site.

You can reach us at any time at support@plantkeeperjournal.com, or by mail at Two Nodes Three Leaves LLC, 906 West McDermott Drive, #116-165, Allen, Texas 75013, USA. This policy explains what information we do and don't collect, and your choices about it.

2. Information in the app

Plant Keeper Journal is designed so that your content stays with you.

Your plant records stay with you

Your plants, photos, notes, milestones, care observations, and all other content you create in the App are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. If you turn on Sync with iCloud, a copy is also kept in your own iCloud account (see "iCloud sync" below). This content is never transmitted to us, and we have no ability to see, access, retrieve, or restore it. It is yours, and it stays on your devices and in your own iCloud.

iCloud sync

The App can keep your journal the same on every iPhone and iPad signed in to your Apple Account, using Apple's iCloud. We call this Sync with iCloud.

It is off until you turn it on. To turn it on or off, open the Settings app, go to Apps → PKJ, and switch Sync with iCloud. Each device has its own switch.

What it syncs: your plants and everything you recorded about them, including those in the Compost Bin; your photos and everything you wrote about them; and your wishlist.

Where it goes: to your own private iCloud storage, and from there to your other devices. It is never sent to us, and we cannot see it. Apple does not give app developers access to their users' private iCloud data. Your text is end-to-end encrypted, with keys kept in your iCloud Keychain. Photos are encrypted by iCloud in transit and on Apple's servers, and end-to-end if you turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud. Apple's Privacy Policy covers how Apple handles iCloud data.

What it uses: your iCloud storage, about 1–2 MB for each photo. Text takes very little.

Turning it off, and removing your journal from iCloud: turning sync off deletes nothing, on the device or in iCloud. Deleting the App does not delete the iCloud copy either; if you install it again and turn sync on, your journal comes back. To remove your journal from iCloud, open the Settings app, go to [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Plant Keeper Journal, and delete its data. Your devices keep their journals, and a device that finds its iCloud data deleted turns its sync off. Nothing is uploaded again unless you turn Sync with iCloud back on; the device you turn it on uploads its journal afresh.

Camera and photo library

With your permission, the App accesses your camera and photo library so you can add images to your plant records. Those images are stored locally within the App on your device and, if you use Sync with iCloud, in your own iCloud account. We never receive them.

Photos you take with the App's camera are also saved to your photo library, so the originals stay in your control. You can turn this off in Settings → Apps → PKJ → Save to Photos. If you allow it, the App reads the full-resolution originals of photos in your journal from your photo library, to share them at full size and to include them in a Full-Resolution archive. With Sync with iCloud on, your other devices receive a reference to each photo's original, so they can find it in your own photo library; the reference means nothing outside your library.

You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in Settings on your iPhone or iPad.

Archives

When you archive your journal, the App writes a file that you save wherever you choose, such as Files or iCloud Drive. The written journal in it is encrypted with a password you set; the photos in it are not encrypted. A Full-Resolution archive includes your photos' originals as they are in your photo library, with any metadata they carry, such as location. We never receive your archives.

No account, no profile

The App does not require you to create an account or sign in. Sync with iCloud uses the Apple Account you are already signed in to on your device. We do not collect your name, email address, or any profile information through the App.

No location or photo-metadata tracking

The App does not use your device's location. A plant's location is text you type yourself. The App does not read GPS or other location metadata from your photos, and the copies it keeps in your journal are saved without it.

Subscriptions and purchases

Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We never receive or store your payment card number or billing details. Apple provides us with limited, largely aggregated sales and transaction reports so we can operate the business. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Analytics and crash data

We do not embed any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the App. Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized usage and crash statistics through its built-in App Analytics — but only for users who have chosen to share analytics with app developers in their iOS settings. This information is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you.

Notifications

The current version of the App does not send notifications. If we add reminders in a future version, they will be on-device local notifications, and we will update this policy to describe them.

3. Information on the website

Waitlist and email updates

If you enter your email address into a sign-up form on our Site, we collect that email address to add you to our mailing list. We use our email service provider, Kit (operated by Kit.com, Inc.), to store our list and send messages; your email is stored on Kit's systems on our behalf. We will email you about the App's launch and, from time to time, about updates, new features, and related news. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.

Hosting and security data

Our Site is hosted and secured by Cloudflare. As with virtually all websites, our host automatically processes limited technical information — such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of your request — in order to deliver the Site to you and protect it against abuse. We do not use this information to identify you personally.

Cookies

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics cookies on the Site. Our host may set essential cookies that are strictly necessary to serve and secure the Site.

4. How we use information

• To run our waitlist and send you updates you asked to receive.
• To operate, maintain, and secure the App and Site.
• To understand and improve the App, using only the aggregated, anonymized analytics Apple may provide.
• To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles about you.

5. Legal bases (EEA / UK users)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent to send you emails after you sign up (which you may withdraw at any time by unsubscribing); and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the App and Site in a privacy-protective way.

6. How we share information

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:

• Service providers who act on our behalf: Apple (app distribution, purchases, and aggregated analytics), Kit (our email list), and Cloudflare (Site hosting and security). They process information only to provide their services to us.
• Legal reasons: if required by law, legal process, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
• Business transfer: if we are ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

Sync with iCloud is not sharing: your content goes from your device to your own iCloud account, under your agreement with Apple, and never passes through us.

7. Data retention

• App content: stays on your devices until you delete it or uninstall the App. If you use Sync with iCloud, the copy in your iCloud account stays until you remove it there; deleting an entry in the App deletes it from iCloud and your other devices too. We do not hold it, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our end.
• Email address: we keep it on our mailing list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, after which we remove it from our active list.

8. Your choices & rights

• Unsubscribe from our emails any time using the link in any message, or by emailing us.
• Turn Sync with iCloud off any time in Settings → Apps → PKJ.
• Delete your app data any time from within the App; with Sync with iCloud on, that deletes it from iCloud and your other devices too. Uninstalling the App deletes it from that device only. To remove the iCloud copy, see "iCloud sync" in section 2. See our Data & Account Deletion page.
• Access, correct, or delete the email information we hold about you by emailing support@plantkeeperjournal.com.

9. Regional privacy rights

EEA / United Kingdom

You have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we and our providers are based in the United States, your email information is processed in the U.S.; by joining our list you understand and agree to this transfer. California

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing." We do not sell or share personal information, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. To make a request, email us.

10. Children's privacy

The App and Site are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

We work with established providers (Apple, Kit, and Cloudflare) that maintain their own security measures. Because your plant data is stored on your own devices and, if you use Sync with iCloud, in your own iCloud account, its security depends largely on your device's protections — such as your passcode, device encryption, and your own backups — and on the security of your Apple Account. No app, website, or method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice (for example, on the Site or by email). This update describes Sync with iCloud, which version 1.0 of the App includes (section 2). If we ever introduce accounts, or any other way for your content to leave your devices, we will update this policy to describe how it works before it takes effect.
